Roy was born in Anson, Jones County, Texas, on 22 June 1908.  He and his
family lived there during his preschool years before moving to Hillsboro,
Hill County, Texas.  In 1926 they moved to Dallas, living on So.
Henderson very near Roy's Uncle Ottis and his Aunt Laura.  He joined East
Grand Baptist Church in Dallas in 1926 and was still a member there when
he died.
Roy remembered an Uncle Bud, who he believes was an uncle of his
father's, coming to visit when he was about ten or twelve years old.
Uncle Bud lived most of the time down in Mexico looking for treasure.
When he came to visit, he "tested" Roy and Hollis for their ability to
use a divining stick in finding minerals or water.  Roy was able to find
minerals, and Uncle Bud tried to get Lonnie and Winnie to let Roy go back
to Mexico with him to hunt for treasure, but they said no.
He said that the larger of the two horses shown in the photograph
with Winnie, his mother, was one which her father had given to her as a
wedding gift.  Its name was "Dinkie", and that horse was one of a team
which pulled the family in a covered wagon to visit Winnie's parents when
Roy was young.  The trip down there took about a week, as he remembers.
There is a photograph of Roy and his brother Hollis with their
cousin, Marjorie Allison, in which the two boys are wearing very
elaborate Indian costumes.  Roy says that his mother made those costumes
for them.  She was an accomplished seamstress.
He married Eva Louise Murdock and they had two children, Betty Louise
and Roy Brooks.  Roy Brooks died when just a few months old, and Eva died
just a year or so after that.
On 6 March 1937 Roy married Ada Kathrine Wood.  Together they raised
Betty, and they had one son, Roy Lynn, who was killed in an automobile
accident during his first year at college.
Roy worked for the U. S. Postal Service in Dallas, Texas, for 33
years.  Part of the time he worked as a substitute carrier or with parcel
post, but most of the those 33 years he worked as a carrier.
