Matilda's father was Hugh le Bigod Earl of Norfolk and her mother was Maud Marshal.  Her paternal grandparents were Roger le Bigod Earl of Norfolk and Ida (Isabel) Plantagenet; her maternal grandparents were Sir William Marshal Earl of Pembroke and Isabel de Clare Cts de Strigoil. She had six brothers and a sister, named Sir Ralph, Roger\Robert le Bigod, John, Hugh, William, Sir Simon and Isabel. She had a half-brother and a half-sister, named John de Warenne and Isabel.
