Rainer or Reginar V succeeded his father and died 1036. He took the part of his uncle Lambert, Count of Lorraine, in the quarrel between the latter and Godfrey, Duke of Lothair. They were defeated in the battle of Florences Sept. 12, 1015, but Rainer later became reconciled with Godfrey through the mediation of the Bishops of Verdun and Cambrai. He married Mathilde, daughter of Herman, Viscount of Verdun, and had an only child, a daughter, Richilde, Countess of Hainault, who succeeded her father in 1036.
