Her paternal grandparents were Robert I "The Magnificent" "The Devil" DUKE OF NORMANDY and Herleva DE FAILAISE; her maternal grandparents were Count Baldwin V OF FLANDERS and Princess Adela Of France CARPET. She had a brother and three sisters, named Henry I "Beauclerc" "The Good Scholar", Adela Of England, Gundred and Maud Margaret. She was the third oldest of the five children.
