John 1st Baron de was born before 1264 in Beaudesert Castle, Warwickshire, England. John 1st Baron de's father was Piers (Peter) de Montfort , Sir Knight and his mother was Maud (Matilda) de la Mare , Heiress of Ashtead. His paternal grandparents were Piers (Peter) de Montfort and Alice de Audley; his maternal grandparents were Matthew de la Mare , of Ashtead and Florence d' Akeni. He had two sisters named Alice de and Elizabeth de. He was the oldest of the three children. He died before May 11th, 1296.General Notes

BARONY OF MONTFORT (I)
JOHN DE MONTFORT, son and heir whose marriage had been granted to Queen Eleanor in 1280. He appears to have been of age in 1284/5. In 1291 the King gave him 10 oaks fit for timber. On 13 April 1294 he was going beyond seas by the King's command with Eleanor, the King's daughter, Countess of Bar; and in August William and John de Montfort were in the Earl of Lincoln's company in Gascony. He was summoned to Parliament on 24 June 1295, by writ directed Johanni de Monte Forti, whereby he is held to have become LORD MONTFORT. He married Alice, daughter of William DE LA PLAUNCHE, between 1286 and 1289. He died before 11 May 1296. His widow Alice had dower in November 1296. John de Montfort, in the 22nd Edward I [1294], being in the wars of Gascony, was the next year summoned to parliament as a baron. His lordship m. Alice, dau. of William de Plaunch, and had issue, John and Peter, successively barons, Elizabeth, m. to Sir Baldwin de Freville, Knt, and Maud, m. to Bartholomew de Sudeley. He d. in 1296, and was s. by his elder son, John de Montfort.
