John "The Marshall" was born about 1105 in Pemroke, Pembrokeshire, Wales.  John "The Marshall"'s father was Lord Gilbert FitzRichard Of Tonbridge And Cardigan DE CLARE and his mother was Adeliza DE CLERMONT.  His paternal grandparents were Lord Richard FitzGilbert "DE Tonbridge" Of Bienfaite DE CLARE and Rohese GIFFARD; his maternal grandparents were Count Hugh DE Creil Of Claremont DE CLERMONT and Marquerite DE ROUCY. He had three brothers and four sisters, named Gilbert FitzGilbert Of Pembroke and Hereford, Baldwin Fitzgilbert Of Bourne Deeping, Richard FitzGilbert Of Hertford, Agnes, Alice, Margaret and Rose FitzGilbert Of Monmouth.  He was the second youngest of the eight children. He had a half-brother named Herve.  He died about 1164.
