Maud (Matilda) was born about 1180 in Lincoln, Lincolnshire, England.  Maud (Matilda)'s father was Richard De Clare and her mother was Amice FitzRobert.  Her paternal grandparents were Earl of Hertford Roger De Clare Earl of Hertford and Maud (Matilda) De Saint Hillary; her maternal grandparents were Earl of Gloucester William FitzRobert Earl of Gloucester and Hawise De Paynel De Beaumont. She had a brother named Gilbert.  She was the older of the two children.  She died in 1213.
