Ermengarde de was born about 1158 in Beaumont-le-Vicomte, Maine, France.  Ermengarde de's father was Richard I Seigneur de Beaumont , Vicomte Maine and her mother was Lucie de l' Aigle.  Her paternal grandparents were Raoul V Roscelin de Beaumont , Vicomte du Maine and Constance FitzHenry; her maternal grandfather was Richard II Sire of Egenoul. She had two brothers and a sister, named Philip I de, Raoul VI de and Constance de.  She was the oldest of the four children.  She died in Balmerino Abbey, Fife, Scotland.
