Isabella was born about 1160 in Headington, Oxfordshire, England. Isabella's father was Thomas Basset , of Headington and her mother was Adeliza (Alice) de Dunstanville. Her paternal grandparents were Gilbert Basset , of Wallingford and Edith d' Oyly; her maternal grandparents were Alan de Dunstanville and Emma DE LANGETOT. She had three brothers named Thomas, Gilbert and Alan. She was the youngest of the four children.-
