Martha Ellen was born on February 15th, 1856 in Missouri. Martha Ellen's father was Uriah P. Wright and her mother was Elizabeth Cross. Her paternal grandparents were Moses Henry Wright and Elizabeth Talley; her maternal grandparents were Elijah Cross and Catherine Cook. She had six brothers and three sisters, named Thomas J., Moses L., Ferdinand, Obediah, William Alexander, Walter, Eliza Jane, Caldonia and Sarah. She was the third oldest of the ten children.-
