Withrow was born about 1822 in , , Of Tennessee. Withrow's father was John Withrow and her mother was Frances. Her paternal grandparents were William Witherow and Priscilla Richardson. She had three brothers and a sister, named Granderson, Richardson, Alonzo and Juliene. She was the youngest of the five children.-
