Catherine was born about 1756 in Of, Halifax, NC. Catherine's father was Tobias Whitehead and her mother was Susannah. Her paternal grandparents were William Whitehead and Rachel Lewis McKinnie. She had five sisters named Nancy Ann, Penelope Or Penny, Mary, Elizabeth and Sarah.
