Barbara was born in 1757. Barbara's father was James Whaley and her mother was Lydia Ann Ramey. Her paternal grandparents were James Whaley and Elizabeth; her maternal grandparents were Jacob Remy and Sarah. She had two brothers and three sisters, named John, William, Elizabeth, Jane Or Keziah and Mary. She was the third youngest of the six children. She had six half-brothers and five half-sisters, named Jacob Gibson, Benjamin, James, Henry, Elijah, Leland, Elizabeth, Rebecca, Sarah, Kate and Jemima.-
