Peter was born in 1768 in , , Virginia. Peter's father was Henry Wax and his mother was Margaret Geschwind. His paternal grandfather was Johann Philip Wax. He had four brothers and nine sisters, named Jacob, Henry, John, Philip, Catherine, Elizabeth, Susannah, Christina, Ester, Hannah, Madaline, Margaret and Maria.
