Turney's father was Daniel Turney and his mother was Mary Jane Or Mollie Mitchell. His paternal grandparents were Amos Turney and Lucinda Mc Intyre; his maternal grandparents were William M. Mitchell and Margaret Or Mary. He had a brother and three sisters, named Turney, Lucille, Margaret and Nellie.-
