Malachi M. was born on June 20th, 1809 in , , NC. Malachi M.'s father was Bird Booker Spier and his mother was Mary Payton. His paternal grandparents were William Spears and Dorothy Holmes. He had seven brothers and two sisters, named Paden Hilary, Jesse P., Pleasant Washington, William Lane, John Augustus, Thomas G., James Bird, Annis Isabel and Julia. He died at the age of 74 in May 1884.-
