His paternal grandparents were James Spears and Ann Doughtie; his maternal grandparents were Caleb Coker and Mary Spier. He had eight brothers and three sisters, named James, Nathaniel Or Nathan, David, Wright, Dempsey, Kindred, Robert, William, Patience Or Terece, Frances and Mary. He died in 1790 in Halifax Co., NC.-
