Lawrence was born in 1723 in Frederick County, Virginia.  Lawrence's father was Johannes Schnepf and his mother was Barbara.  His paternal grandparents were Lorentz Schnepf and Anna Haber. He had a brother and five sisters, named John, Barbara, Catherine, Christian, Margaret and Salome.  He was the second oldest of the seven children.  He died at the age of 59 in 1782 in Shenandoah County, Virginia.
