Jacob Susong was born in 1818 in Sullivan County, Tennessee.  Jacob Susong's father was Elias Gotlieb Schonecker and his mother was Katherine Susong.  His maternal grandparents were Andrew Susong and Barbara. He had five brothers and five sisters, named Andrew, John, William, Elijah, James King, Barbara, Sophia, Elizabeth, Sarah and Louisiana.  He was the youngest of the eleven children.
