Catherine was born in 1847 in , Hawkins, Tennessee. Catherine's father was William Robertson and her mother was Mary Davis. Her paternal grandparents were Richard Robertson and Mary. She had five brothers and five sisters, named James, William, Marion, Obadiah, Thomas, Sarah Jane, Elizabeth, Prudence, Adaline and Caroline. She was the youngest of the eleven children.-
