Mary Ann was born in 1833 in , Hawkins, Tennessee. Mary Ann's father was David Reynolds and her mother was Sarah Louderback. Her paternal grandparents were Isham Reynolds and Ann Hinton; her maternal grandparents were Henry Louderback and Mary Or Polly McDaniel. She had four brothers and four sisters, named Isom, Henry, John, William H., Jane, Sarah, Martha and Frances M.. She was the oldest of the nine children.-
