Mourning was born about 1708 in Of, VA. Mourning's father was Henry Pope and her mother was Sarah Watts. Her paternal grandparents were William Pope and Marie; her maternal grandparents were John Watts and Alice English. She had eight brothers and two sisters, named William, Henry, Richard, Jacob, John, Joseph, Thomas, Samuel, Mary and Jane. She was the third youngest of the eleven children.-
