Robert was born in 1604 in Bristol, Dorset, England.  Robert's father was William Pitt and his mother was Mary Gibbs.  His paternal grandfather was Thomas Pitt. He had three brothers and four sisters, named Henry, Thomas, William, Anne, Martha, Mary and Maud.
