Dixie Lee was born in 1895 in , Bristol, Washington, VA. Dixie Lee's father was James McCrary and her mother was Nancy Elizabeth Beal. Her maternal grandparents were Joseph Johnson Beal and Sarah M. Steel. She had three brothers named James Hamilton, Frederick Henry and Charles William. She was the second oldest of the four children. She died at the age of 91 in 1986.-
