Jane was born in 1837 in , Hawkins, TN.  Jane's father was Hennus Lawson and her mother was Jailey. She had four brothers and four sisters, named Newton, William, Martin, Joseph, Elizabeth, Mary, Martha and Mariah.  She was the fifth oldest of the nine children.
