Ann was born in 1836 in , Hawkins, Tennessee.  Ann's father was Williams Kinkead and her mother was Nancy Gibbons.  Her maternal grandfather was John Gibbons. She had two brothers and seven sisters, named Williams, David, Elizabeth, Mary, Nancy L., Susan Adeline, Jane, Frances and Katherine.  She was the fourth youngest of the ten children.
