Hannah was born about 1763 in , Halifax, North Carolina. Hannah's father was Francis Bythell Haynes and her mother was Anne Bell. Her paternal grandparents were Thomas III Haynes and Bythell; her maternal grandparents were William Bell and Ann Jones. She had five brothers and three sisters, named Bythell, Christopher, Thomas, Francis Lawrence, William, Lucy, Mary and Anna.-
