Alexander's father was Augustine Haller and his mother was Catherine Halderman. His paternal grandparents were Peter Haller and Magdalena Dake. He had five brothers and five sisters, named Abraham, Augustine, David, Isaac, John, Catherine, Leah, Lydia, Mary and Rachel.-
