Della Grace was born in 1889 in , Hawkins, Tennessee.  Della Grace's father was Jacob Tillman Gardner and her mother was Hila Luster.  Her paternal grandparents were James Gardner and Anna Myers. She had eight brothers and three sisters, named Arthur E., Willie H., Lowery Rexall, Homer Cecil, Rome Homer, John Newton, James Rolla, Joseph Jacob, Martha E., Mary Ethel and Minnie Bell.  She was the fourth oldest of the twelve children.  She died at the age of 61 in 1950.
