His paternal grandparents were Elias Fort and Phyllis Champion; his maternal grandparents were Richard Jordan and Elizabeth. He had five brothers and three sisters, named Elias, Richard, Thomas, William, John, Mary, Hannah and Sarah. He died in 1761 in , Edgecombe, NC.-
