Robert was born about 1256 in Shenton, Staffordshire, England. Robert's father was Bartholomew De Gresbroke and his mother was Edith De Grendon. His paternal grandparents were Robert Grazebrook and Painell; his maternal grandparents were Robert De Grendon and Avicia De Bray. He had a brother named Adam. He was the younger of the two children.
