Maurice Jackson was born in 1905 in Of, Scott, Virginia.  Maurice Jackson's father was Samuel Chester Cox and his mother was Pearl Patton Winegar.  His paternal grandparents were Samuel Cox and Susannah Carr; his maternal grandparents were James O'brien Winegar and Amanda Tennessee Haynes. He had three brothers and a sister, named Lindsay O'brien, Fred Patton, Clinton Seaver and Edna Pearl.  He was the third oldest of the five children.  He died at the age of 87 in 1992.
