Peter was born in 1504 in Of Cranbrook, Kent, England. Peter's father was Alexander Courthoppe and his mother was Katherine Foster. His paternal grandfather was Peter Courthope; his maternal grandfather was Robert Foster. He had three brothers and five sisters, named William, Richard, John, Catherine, Agnes, Elizabeth, Eleanor and Courthope.
