George's father was Amos Cotton and his mother was Zilpha Wimberly. His paternal grandparents were Joseph Cotton and Patience Bridgers; his maternal grandfather was George Wimberly. He had three brothers and three sisters, named James, Joseph, Wimberly, Elizabeth, Pheriby and Sarah.-
