Allen B. was born about 1849 in , Jefferson, Mississippi. Allen B.'s father was Lewis Cato and his mother was Mary Ann Galbreath. His paternal grandparents were Burwell Cato and Cato. He had four brothers and three sisters, named John A., William, James F., George A., Frances C., Mary A. and Melissa. He was the second youngest of the eight children.-
