Minerva was born in 1852 in Of, Hawkins, Tennessee. Minerva's father was Burton and her mother was Cecelia. She had a brother and four sisters, named Andrew, Elizabeth, Jane, Sarah and Nancy. She had two half-sisters named Martelia and Mary.
