Walter Leon was born about 1867 in , Hawkins, Tennessee.  Walter Leon's father was Owen Montgomery Brown and his mother was Nancy Louise Faulkner.  His paternal grandparents were Thomas E. Brown and Sarah Sizemore. He had three brothers and three sisters, named Luther Faulkner, Elbert Poindexter, Owen Montgomery, Rebecca Parolee, Sarah Emily and Elizabeth.  He was the third youngest of the seven children.  He died about 1867 in , Hawkins, Tennessee.
