Darwin A. was born in 1883 in Sullivan County, Tennessee. Darwin A.'s father was John Wilder Boyd and his mother was Melvina P. Fish. His paternal grandparents were James A. Boyd and Elizabeth Paxton; his maternal grandparents were Noah Peterfish and Elizabeth. He had seven brothers and three sisters, named Wilder Clayton, Gilbert E., Elbert, Alfred L., Boyd, J. Ernest, Boyd, Esther Adaline, Wilkie Lucretia and Elizabeth. He was the fourth youngest of the eleven children.-
