Gilbert was born in 1553 in Of, Wells, Somerset, England. Gilbert's father was Richard Bourne and his mother was Sylvester Tybolde. He had six brothers named John, Jasper, Richard, Roger, Thomas and William. He died at the age of 42 in 1595 in Of, Wells, Somerset, England.
