Larken Battle 
Larken was born in 1794 in North Carolina. Larken's father was William Battle and his mother was Mary Ann Williams. His paternal grandparents were John Battle Jr. and Sarah Browne; his maternal grandfather was John Williams. He had four brothers and four sisters, named Thomas, Laurence, William, Alfred, Fred, Elizabeth Williams, Martha Williams and Mary Ann. He was the fifth oldest of the nine children.
