Abel Bartholomew was born in 1855 in Sullivan County, Tennesse. Abel Bartholomew's father was John Akard and his mother was Emma Margaret Rodefer. His paternal grandparents were Adam Akard and Elizabeth Wassom; his maternal grandparents were George Rodefer and Frances Harr. He had five brothers and seven sisters, named William Franklin, David Nathaniel, Dolvon Barnabas, James Hancher M., John Rodefer, Margaret Rebecca, Lucy Emily, Martha Maria, Mary Elizabeth, Matilda Catherine, Sarah Jane and Susannah Ella. He died at the age of 46 in 1901.-
