James Overton was born in 1704 in Cedar Hill, New Kent Co., Va.. James Overton's father was William HARRIS and his mother was Temperance OVERTON. His paternal grandfather was UNKNOWN UNKNOWN; his maternal grandparents were William OVERTON and Elizabeth "Mary" WATERS. He had six brothers and a sister, named Robert, George , John , Benjamin O., William , Jemima and Elizabeth L.. He was the fourth youngest of the eight children.-
