Narrative
REFERENCE: 309 VA Cous
Samuel Cabell Horsley, was Surgeon in the Navy, and was in service during
the war of 1812, in several Naval engagements. He was in Perry's
flag-ship at the battle of Lake Erie, and when that was about to go down
escaped with the Commodore and other officers, in an open boat to the
nearest vessel of the American squadron. His share of prize money was $
3,000. His portrait hangs in the Council Hall in Baltimore. He survived
the war and died in the U.S. service at Portsmouth, Va. (Note of Dr. W.
A. Horsley, communicated by Alex Brown, Esq.) p. 132 Va Cousins.
