Narrative
Hazel Kerk Murphy Wiesjahn (1891-1954) left a handwritten history of the Pulaski County, Indiana Murphy family. The black, leather-bound, composition notebook is replete with sketches of their houses; the Mooresburg store, church, and school; the Mill Creek Bridge; and even the phaeton of which Aunt Rachel was so fond. Hazel also recorded Fannie Graffis reminiscences of the Murphys. Fannie, born in 1868, was the granddaughter of Nathan Hunt Murphy & Martha Barbara Kerr. Hazel, Fannies first cousin once removed, was the great-granddaughter of Nathan & Martha Barbara.

Family lore: Aunt Hazel and "Almy" (Alma Conn Murphy) died within hours of each other. The two "girls" had been best friends throughout life. The sisters-in-law shared viewing hours at the mortuary in Winamac and are both buried in Winamac Cemetery. Hazel's widower, Henry, remarried -- another Hazel.
