John Hancock was opposed to the institution of slavery. With his wife, 6 sons, 2 daughters and Peter Hancock he removed to Harrison County, Indiana in 1819. He established Hancock Settlement, a post office, and Hancock Chapel. Peter Hancock was a free man and a gifted cabinet maker whose hands crafted beautiful cherry furniture.
