Selah's father was Selah Strong and his mother was Abigail Terry. His paternal grandparents were Thomas Strong and Rachel Holton; his maternal grandfather was Thomas Terry. He had four brothers and five sisters, named Thomas, Benjamin, Joseph, Benajah, Rachel, Abigail, Hannah, Mary and Anna.-
