Notes for THOMAS STEVENS:
Thomas' origin is uncertain. Susannah Stevens Whitcomb stated in a letter dated February 18, 1978 addressed to the DeWitt Historical Society at Ithaca, NY:
"I had research done in England so that I know my line is correct. My England line is first Richard Stevens of Middlesex County, England who had thirteen sons.... My John Stevens, the 2nd gen., he and his brother Anthony Stevens both lawyers like their father, came to America on the "Francis" in 1635. Savage does not list John on the "Francis" but England records show they did. John Stevens settled in Stamford, Conn. in 1641. He son Thomas died young in Stamford, Conn. June 14,(s9c) 1658, leaving a widow and five small sons."
Huntington's History of Stamford, Ct. stated, "no records h ave been found to show that he (John) was any relation to Thomas Stevens." Susahhan Whitcomb's research would appear to substantiate the relationship between John and Thomas, his son.
