Donnchad O'Brien's father was Brian Bóruma macCennétig King of Munster and his mother was Gormflaeth ingen Murchada MacFinn.  His paternal grandfather was Cennétig of Thomond King of Thomond; his maternal grandparents were Morugh MacFinn King of Leinster and daughter O'Ruarc. He had two half-brothers and a half-sister, named Teige (Terence), Sihtric Silkbeard Olafsson and Slani ingen Briain.  He died in 1064 in San Stefano Rotondo Church, Rome, Italy.1
