Claude Hornsby
Garden City Beach - Services for Claude Myrtine Hornsby, 93, of West
Surfwinds, will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Shepherd of the Sea Lutheran
Church, Garden City Beach, with burial at 2:30 p.m. in Greenlawn
Cemetery, Columbia. The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 tonight
at Goldfinch Funeral Home, Beach Chapel. Memorials may be made to
American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 316, Conway, 29526 or Shepherd of the
Sea Lutheran Church, P.O. Box 1750, Murrells Inlet, 29576.

Mr. Hornsby died Tuesday, December 9, 1997, at his home. Born August 25,
1904, in Columbia, he was the son of the late Mertin P. and Maly Sease
Hornsby. He began working with the State Printing Co. in 1920 and with
the State Newspaper from 1921 to 1967. He was president of Columbia
Typographical Union #34 for 16 years, and served as president and
vice-president of Virginia-Carolinas Typographical Conference. Mr.
Hornsby served on the Columbia City Planning Committee for 12 years. He
was a member of Shepherd of the Sea Lutheran Church and a former member
of Incarnation Lutheran Church, Columbia, where he was president of
Couples Sunday School Class and active with the Cub Scouts at the church.

Surviving are his wife of 67 years, Mary Eddy Hornsby; son, Ben M.
Hornsby of Leawood, Kan.; daughter, Eddy Mae Murphy of Garden City Beach;
four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.[Sease#2.FTW]
