Narrative
Will of Robert Burton Payne, 1784 - Fluvanna Co. VA
I Robert Burton PAYNE of Fluvanna County being sick and weak in Body, but in mind and
memory perfectly sound, do make this my last Will and Testament. First it is my desire that all
my just Debts be paid, and for the purpose of accomplishing the same, do impower and direct my
Executors hereafter to be named, t sell and dispose of my Estate either real or personal as to them
shall seem right, and most for the advantage of my Family. The balance of my Estate real and
personal, I lend to my beloved wife Margaret Sidenham PAYNE during her natural life, and after
her decease to be equally divided between my Children Lucy Marton PAYNE, Richard
Bichworth PAYNE, Robert Burton PAYNE, Molley Jordan PAYNE, Peggy Sidenham PAYNE,
and Betsey Brockenbrough PAYNE, I give to them and their Heirs forever. And I do hereby
appoint my Brothers George PAYNE, and Joseph PAYNE my Executors to this my last Will and
Testament. In Witness hereof I have hereunto set my hand and Seal this twenty third day of
October in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and eighty four.

At a Court held for Fluvanna County on Thursday the third day of March 1785. This Will was
proved by the oaths of Tunstall QUARLES, and Hetwiah CAUTHON two of the witnesses
thereto, and ordered to be recorded. And on the motion of George PAYNE, one of the Executors
therein named who made oath thereto, and entered into Bond with George THOMPSON
Security, in the penalty of four thousand pounds conditioned as the Law directs, certificate is
granted him for obtaining a probate thereof in due form.
